U.S. Imposes Sanctions on Bosnia and Herzegovina Officials

The four individuals facilitated the passage of a law that undermines the Dayton Accords peace deal.

The State Department announced sanctions against four top officials of Bosnia and Herzegovina for supporting a law that compromises the constitution under the Dayton Accords, a U.S.-sponsored peace deal for the Balkan war of the 1990s.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller reported that High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hans Christian Schmidt, “publicly condemned the law as an unacceptable offense to the rule of law and an assault on the constitutional order of BiH.“

Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Brian Nelson, said of the law’s passage, “This action threatens the stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the hard-won peace underpinned by the Dayton Peace Agreement.“ He added, “This behavior further threatens the country’s future trajectory and successful integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Under Secretary Nelson as he heads the Treasury Office for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
  • For wisdom for Treasury and State Department officials as they determine to impose sanctions upon foreign leaders.
  • For the president and his foreign policy advisors as they assess the instability of various international regions.
